Slurp F&B Talk

Recently, Slurp POS held an event for restaurant owners in collaboration with SukaSucre Bistro. The event was held at their RYU event hall which is just next door to their restaurant. We have been planning to organise a beneficial talk for restaurateurs for a while now. To see it finally happen was a great pleasure for us and everyone involved.

For your information, our seminar is for restaurateurs and it gives them a chance to learn and gain valuable insights about the F&B industry. This event also acts as a platform for restaurateurs to network with others in the industry.

Dato’ Fazley Yaakob

Slurp F&B Talk

The first to speak was Dato Fazley Yaakob himself, the founder and head chef at SukaSucre Bistro. He shared his life journey as an entrepreneur and the struggles he went through to achieve what he achieved today.

There were lots of important lessons that Dato’ Fazley shared and we’re sure that the audience gain valuable knowledge from his experiences. Especially in terms of caring for your customers. He emphasised the importance of caring for your customers even when mistakes did not come from your side.

He also shared about pricing and how restaurateurs should never cheat customers in terms pricing and ingredients. If you do, your customer’s appreciation for your business will degrade overtime and they will slowly stop becoming loyal to your restaurant.

Coach Zuraina & Coach Yusainy

Then we had Coach Zuraina & Coach Yusainy next. Both of them are F&B trainers, consultants and book authors. Their book titled “Menu Kejayaan Bisnes Restoran” is a comprehensive guide to start your restaurant business.

Coach Zuraina shared some insightful data about the current trends in F&B from her recent PhD studies. One key takeaway from her study is that it is no longer sufficient for restaurants to only serve food.

Restaurants need to understand their target market persona deeply. Such as their demographic information, their desires and their behaviours. For example, customers are becoming increasingly educated about healthy eating and are beginning to demand healthier options.

Another important thing to note is that customers are always happy to spend money on food if they get friendly service. Be it from restaurant staffs or the owner him/herself.

Coach Yusainy then took the stage to introduce the concept of “3 RM” which consist of “Re-evaluate, Re-align, Re-model, Menu, Management and Marketing”.

One key takeaway from Coach Yusainy was that many restaurants do not know how to properly price their food. To maintain a profitable restaurant business, it is ideal for restaurants to keep their food cost at 40% and below. Some restaurant that he consulted had over 60% in food cost!

Apart from that, he also talked about how restaurants need to step up their game in terms of food and menu presentation. It is no longer sufficient to just showcase pictures of food because customers have become immune to it.

Human interest and some form of movement should also be included to add an extra dimension into the menu presentation.

Conclusion

At the end of the talk, we were served with delicious food by SukaSucre Bistro and participants took the chance to chat with others and network. Many of them also took the opportunity to take pictures with Dato’ Fazley.

We had so much fun organising the event and we hope all the participants enjoyed their time and gained something valuable out of it.

Special thanks to Dato Fazley Yaakob and SukaSucre Bistro for making this event possible. Also thanks to Coach Yusainy and Coach Zuraina for coming and sharing their knowledge. Not forgetting our partner at Boost Wallet for sponsoring goodie bags, thanks a bunch!
